On the New York Times I found an article with the title, "Couple Who Tortured 12 Children in Their California Home Are Sentenced to Life." Just the title had me extremely intrigued so, of course, I read it. Written by Anemona Hartocollis, she said that these 12 children were all children, blood and bones, of the couple. The couple, David, 57, and Louise Turpin, 50, actually had 13 children but the youngest child, a 2-year-old toddler was not one that had been abused. The rest of the 12 children, ranging from ages 2 to 29 years old, were all abused. The children had been shackled to their beds, were allowed one to no meals a day, because they were shackled, they could not use the bathroom, they had to stay inside and they were also not able to shower.
These children were able to escape their parents after one of the daughters, who is 17 years old, climbed out a window and used a phone she took from the house to call 911. She explained the years of abuse to the dispatcher and although she sounded much younger than she was, it was caused the abuse she had faced. Two other daughters were also not able to bear children because of the harm done by their parents. In the article, it stated that three of the kids claimed they still loved their parents. In my mind, this is absolutely CRAZY. How could a child still love their parents after they were beaten through their entire childhood, starved and imprisoned?!?! But from the information in the article, it states that the parents voiced, "'I never intended for any harm to come to my children...I miss all of my children and will be praying for them.'" This clearly displays that these parents had some mental issues. What parent says that after beating and taking away their childrens' lives "I never intended any harm???" No parent genuinely believes that after purposely hurting their kids that they did not mean any harm. What these parents did was truly disturbing and the fact that they believe they did nothing wrong is why they are going to be in prison for the rest of their lives. They had to have lied and misdirected their children so greatly because some of the kids still think they love them. I just hope that one day they will see what terrible and horrible things their parents did to them and it doesn't affect them badly. I hope they can move on and live their lives, forgetting about the past.

The fact that they thought they didn't do anything wrong, is oh my goodness, insane. If you meant to hit your child and was like oops I didn't mean too, thats foolish and you know exactly what you did and how you hurt them.
